Welcome back old friend!

After all these years in Uptown, Watel’s is now on Lowest Greenville (1802 Greenville Avenue, in the former Gachet location, just a few steps from Good Records).  It’s now “Watel’s World Piece Cafe“, and René Peeters has lots of wining, dining and entertainment specials.  Tomorrow night (Saturday April 10), have dinner and catch a Beatles/Stones cover band with an earthshatteringly creative name:  The Rolling Beatles Unplugged (wow!).  This acoustic trio plays jazz arrangements of tunes from the Fab Four and the Glimmer Twins starting at 8:30.  There’s a $5 cover.  Book your dinner reservation (required) at 214-720-0323.  René is also offer cooking classes, event space, and jazz dinners next door at the venue he calls “A Few of My Favorite Things”.  Good luck on the new location!  Let us know what you think if you visit

55 Degrees in Plano continues to be one very cool outpost of wine enjoyment and entertainment.  Their April calendar is packed with interesting items every weekend.  If you’re a fan of Manhattan Transfer (like I am), you will want to check out Guys and Dolls (patterned after MT’s superb vocal stylings) on Saturday April 17th.  There’s jazz, funk and more coming up for the remainder of the month, not to mention wine specials, food specials, happy hour specials, “Ladies Night” on April 28th, fantastic art on display and more.  Follow your senses to 4709 W. Parker or click here for details–whichever comes naturally.

All you can eat?  Catfish and lobster? (not at the same time).  What’s not to like?  The Catalina at 4218 Lemmon Avenue in Dallas wants to make sure you get enough food, wine, and fun!  Friday nights mean “fish fry” so you can fill up on all the catfish you want for $18 and order half-price wine.  Saturday’s bill of fare is heavenly crustacean.  They’re offering all you can eat lobster for $45 per person and half-price wine.  There’s entertainment nightly, too.  Call 214-526-5411 for more information.

FREE “Dinner Club with Jim White” event coming up next Friday!

Be sure to come taste some wine with us next Friday (April 16th) at Big Daddy’s on Northwest Highway and Luna.  It’s a FREE special event from “The Dinner Club with Jim White”.  Big Daddy’s is a “brother” store to Centennial Fine Wine and Spirits.  And, we say “brother”, because with a name like Big Daddy’s you would not call it a “sister” store (what was your first clue?).  We have conducted tastings at a number of the great Centennial stores, so we wanted to go to one of Centennial’s affiliate locations and meet some new friends in Northwest Dallas. Come taste wines with us, including the 20 Gauge Chardonnay, Pikes “The Red Mullet” Australian Red, Chateau Potensac Medoc Bordeaux 2002, and enjoy a delightful Ricossa Moscato d’Asti. Big Daddy’s will offer special sale prices on the wine (only during our tasting) and we’ll be giving away some great prizes.  Be sure and join us Friday between 4 and 7 p.m.,  at Big Daddy’s on Northwest Highway and Luna Road in Dallas.  Click here for a map and directions.

Cheers! And, happy tasting.
