Cheers for the Big Game!

We know you’ll spend most of your time watching the commercials during the Super Bowl.  But, the rest of the time, you’ll be nibbling.  C’mon admit it.  From about 12:27 until kickoff at 5:27 (did you ever wonder why they chose that time?) you’ll be ravenously hungry and feeding your face most of the time (that’s because those $3 million dollar :30 second ads are actually riddled with subliminal messages to crave pizza, salty snacks, and beer–well, come to think of it, those messages are right out front).  What if you refined that menu and made it more upscale?  What if you served your guests Champagne with crab beignets and lobster crisps instead?  How cool would it be to have a “Champagne Tailgate” party?  Well, thanks to a brand new Facebook App you can.  Moët-Hennessy USA has launched the application combining food, fun, friends and football called Champagne First. (Click this link to check out the Facebook page.)  Thought to be an industry first, champagne is being marketed in conjunction with Super Bowl XLV utilizing education for food and wine enthusiasts.  The Facebook application engages users in a number of ways to build brand awareness for: Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, Krug, Dom Perignon, and Ruinart. Facebook Friends can test their champagne knowledge, learn about food pairings, create personal tasting notes, send virtual bottles to friends and earn badges and prizes along the way.  The app is pretty cool, and will continue after the Super Bowl.  Valentine’s is just around the corner.  Savor Dallas in March.  Then, an Easter toast might be in order.   You’ll undoubtedly want some sparklers handy for the Fourth of July, and so on.  At any rate, that’s what Moët Hennessy is hoping.  The idea is get us to consider Champagne for more than just a toast on special occasions.  It really is an excellent food wine, and our hats are off to the creative types at Moët Hennessy for engaging the social network to get this message across.  Champagne, then cheers!
