Dine! Michael’s Cuisine

Chef Michael Thomson and Jim White

Chef Michael Thomson and Jim White

Michael Thomson still packs ’em in at his Cultural District restaurant years after a lot of restaurants vanish.  His upscale comfort food, or “contemporary ranch cuisine”, in a laid back setting, pleases diners for lunch, dinner, or evenings on the patio.  Michael has helped many a young chef learn the ropes through the years.  That’s why his protégées affectionately refer to him as the “Godfather of Fort Worth chefs”.  See Michael in action in our latest CBS video for “DINE! with Jim White”, and be sure to stop by sometime if you haven’t been.  Heads up:  TCU Horn Frogs spoken here.   Show up bedecked in purple and you might even get a better table! Regardless, you’re sure to find good ol’ fashioned Texas hospitality.

Al’s is the place to be for a great meal during DFW Restaurant Week.  You’ll get to preview their DFW Restaurant Week menu THIS WEEKEND during the special “Preview” in which select restaurants are participating.  Be among the first to get in and get that great three-course dinner to support the North Texas Food Bank, and the Lena Pope Home when you dine at a participating restaurant in Fort Worth.

I love good Indian food.  Some of the best around is from a cool, young, rising star chef Ross Duggal, owner of India West Restaurant in Addison.  Ross takes his heritage, and his family’s commitment to hospitality seriously.  He’ll be adding his modern touches on classic Indian cuisine for DFW Restaurant Week.  Stop by and see him and support the great work of the North Texas Food Bank, or the Lena Pope Home when you dine out for Restaurant Week in Fort Worth.

Meet Chef Graham Dodds from one of the hottest restaurants in town, Central 214.  It was very cool to hear about the special menu he has planned for his special addition to DFW Restaurant Week, “The Cadillac Lunch Experience”.  It gives you a chance to dine out during daylight and dark to help the work of the North Texas Food Bank and the Lena Pope Home.  I had fun with Graham.  I think you’ll enjoy watching the Scotsman at work.

One of the cool things about DFW Restaurant Week is getting to dine with rising star chefs while you’re helping a good cause.  I’m so happy to take the “Eye on DFW Restaurant Week” video series to Salum to introduce you to Abraham Salum, chef/owner.  Abraham also operates Komali.  If you haven’t been, both restaurants are among the over 125 that are supporting Restaurant Week and the great work of the North Texas Food Bank and the Lena Pope Home.  Enjoy.

Four rounds with Rocky couldn’t be this much fun!  I loved “Fork Fight” at 3015 Trinity Groves.  It’s the development’s cool idea to pre-promote their new restaurants that start opening in the fall.  Each week a couple of “contenders” go at it for four, pounding, pulsating, palate pleasing courses, paired with wine, beer and cocktails.  The winner of the bracket style competition will face grande dame chef extraordinaire Sharon Van Meter (proprietor of 3015) for a big, winner take all (bragging rights) showdown.  Here’s how you get information about Thursday’s edition of “Fork Fight” pitting Souk VS Chino.  Go to BrownPaperTickets.com or call 214-744-0100.  Check out our video to see who won this week’s bout between LUCK and Resto Gastro Bistro.
