Meet Winemaker David Hopkins

Miles’ quest for the perfect Pinot Noir in the 2004 film starring Paul Giamatti brought national attention to the appellation’s Pinot Noir, but Chardonnay claims the most Central Coast acreage. At the southern end of the AVA, Bordeaux and Rhône varietals reign on south-facing hillsides and high benchlands. It is here that Bridlewood Winemaker David Hopkins finds the incredible grapes to make his complex wines.  You’ll have a chance to taste some of David’s kaleidoscope of flavors in a special tasting of Bridlewood Chardonnay, Arabesque (a Rhône blend), and yes, Pinot Noir, at selected Centennial Fine Wine and Spirits locations this Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. and Saturday from 2 until 4.   David will make a special appearance at Centennial’s C-17 Location at Greenville and Ross Avenue in Dallas on Saturday March 19th, from noon til 2 p.m.

Varietals are the Spice of Life at Savor Dallas’ “Wine Panel Tasting Seminar”

Savor a world of wines and meet the people responsible for making them at the popular Savor Dallas “Wine Panel” tasting seminar on Saturday March 19th, at 3 p.m. at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel, Seminar Theatre.

From left April Cullom, David Hopkins, John Concannon, Karla Barber, Kim McPherson, Dr. Richard Becker

Two leaders of the Texas Wine Industry will be on hand for the interactive tasting:  Dr. Richard Becker, proprietor of Becker Vineyards in Fredricksburg, with his Bordeaux blend Claret, and Kim McPherson, from McPherson Cellars in Lubbock sampling his Viognier.  Winemaker David Hopkins from Bridlewood Estate Winery will be showing off his California Central Coast Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (this is “Sideways” country after all).  Farther up the coast in Livermore, The Concannon Family Vineyards has been producing great wines for over 125 years.  John Concannon will be pouring his family’s Heritage Petite Sirah, which is only made in select years, with exceptional grapes from the very best vintages.  Delicious wines from Ribera del Duero round-out the tasting.   The region’s international wine ambassador April Cullom teases your taste buds with Tinta de Toro (adapted for this region of Spain from Tempranillo).  The session will be moderated by Karla Barber who is president of the Dallas Chapter of Women for Wine Sense.

The comfortable Seminar Theatre is the perfect setting for this wine adventure.  A limited number of tickets remain for this great tasting.  You’re also invited to stay and enjoy the full Savor Dallas wine and food experience following the seminar.  There is a special ticket package that combines the Reserve Tasting (5 p.m.) and the International Grand Tasting (7 p.m.)   Visit SavorDallas.com for full details and to get tickets to all events.  It’s “the most delicious wine and food festival in Texas” –March 18-19, in the Dallas Arts District.  Bring your friends.

Join the Fun Friday and Saturday

If you love Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa and Sonoma, then you know the wines from one of California’s great winemaking families:  Louis M. Martini.  If you haven’t tried Louis M. Martini wines, two of their great Cabs and a Napa Valley Chardonnay  are featured at selected Centennial Fine Wine locations on Friday (3/4) and Saturday (3/5).  The Friday Tastings are from 5 until 7 p.m.  On, Saturday the complimentary tastings are from 2 until 4 p.m.  Jim White will be interviewing Centennial Fine Wine Director Scott Barber and shooting some video of the tasting on Friday at 5 p.m. at Centennial’s “C14” location at 8123 Preston Road in Dallas.  So, stop by for a glass and add your comments to the video.  Find out why the Louis M. Martini people say “great winemaking begins with great vineyards, and we want the land to speak through our wines”.   The tastings are being conducted to showcase a number of great wines being featured at Savor Dallas in the next two weeks leading up to the annual wine and food festival on March 18th and 19th.  Taste MacMurray Ranch on March 11-12, and Bridlewood Estate Winery on March 18 & 19, and meet their winemaker David Hopkins.  More details on that next week.  For now, catch a glimpse of a Bridlewood tasting at the Centennial Lakewood store and learn more about these fine wines from California’s Central Coast.  And, read on to find the participating Centennial locations for this weekend’s tasting of Louis M.
