If you have been looking for a new favorite Chardonnay….look no further.  The O.T.P Russian River Chardonnay 2008 may appear to have a funny name, but it actual does define what this wine is all about.  O.T.P is an acronym that stands for “Of the Place” – highlighting their focus on terroir.  Recently, their efforts have been acknowledged by Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar.  Josh Raynolds writes, “Light gold.  Tangerine, melon, candied ginger and sweet butter on the slightly smoky nose.  Plump, ripe and palate-coating, with good clarity and cut to the flavors of honeydew, candied citrus and honeysuckle.  Tactile, gently sweet but energetic wine with a long, velvety finish.  A bit more vivacity would have made this outstanding. Score: 89.”

In fact, if you find Champagne with the term Blanc de Blancs on the label – it is made with 100% Chardonnay.  Chardonnay obviously also found a “home away from home” in California and has become one of the most popular white wines in the United States.

The Delatour Chardonnay is classified as a Vin de Pays d’Oc (pronounced as van-do-pay doc) This form of French wine classification allows individual winemakers to identify their wines with larger grape growing appellations within France. This form of classification is also subject to testing, analysis, evaluation and approval by an INAO tasting committee (a branch of the French Ministry of Agriculture.) All wines identified as Vin de Pays d’Oc are specifically sourced from the Languedoc-Roussillon area in Mediterranean France and tend to offer excellent quality wines for everyday consumption.

Grosset.jpgThis light and refreshing unoaked Chardonnay offers delightful aromas of Casaba melon, blanched almonds and papaya. On the palate, the flavor profile exudes even richer characteristics of dried yellow apples, fresh ripe pears and an additional note of honeydew melon with a twist of lemon zest. This wine is certainly enjoyable on its own and suits almost any occasion, but it also serves as a perfect companion for picnics and light appetizers.  Unfortunately, there are only forty cases of this wine still available….if you are planning on an exciting and fun-filled summer this year, you may want to consider purchasing a case of this wine before everyone else does!
