Valentine’s Treats for the Sweet

And, you know who you are!  Valentine’s is like the Super Bowl of dining for the restaurant industry.  Expect big crowds at all the popular places.  Know that you will need a reservation, and for the best table in the really cool spots, you should have called by now.  But never fear, dear heart, because February 14th is a Monday, the window of opportunity is wider this year.  You may confidently choose a rendezvous with your dearly beloved from Thursday February 11th through Valentine’s.  You might even be so bold as to include Tuesday 2/15 if you can sell it on the basis of your “great wisdom” in wanting to “avoid the crowds” and have an intimate dinner in your favorite restaurant (go for it).  I would event submit that you will gain numerous bonus points for making a Valentine’s reservation, and then “extending the romance” by getting you and your honey tickets to the Savor Dallas Wine and Food Festival on March 18-19.  You can enjoy the major part of the DFW dining scene in one night at the International Grand Tasting.  But first things first.  Here are some Valentine’s wining and dining suggestions that we think will be helpful.

“Boss” Top Chef Perfects the Craft

Fans of TV’s “Top Chef” get to bask in the glow of one of America’s most accomplished, and successful, chefs as he rolls into town next week to cook for fans of his restaurant Craft Dallas.

Chef/owner Tom Colicchio will be joining Chef de Cuisine Jeff Harris in the kitchen at craft | DALLAS on September 27th and 28th (Next Monday and Tuesday).  They will be preparing meals using some of their favorite seasonal ingredients, including Jerusalem Artichokes, Brussels Sprouts, Guinea Hen, and Chanterelle Mushrooms.  Make reservations by calling 214 397 4111.   Craft Dallas is located in the W Hotel in Victory Park, at 2440 Victory Park Lane Dallas, TX 75219.  For more information visit Craft’s Facebook page.  Complimentary valet parking offered.

Time to Nosh

Chef Avner Samuel’s new Dallas restaurant & bar, NOSH euro bistro and bar, is now open in the space formerly occupied by his ultra lavish Aurora (4216 Oak Lawn Avenue, Dallas, TX 75219-2312).  The expanded space includes a full bar, additional seating areas and a food bar that has been incorporated into the open kitchen. The menu, featuring casual European/Mediterranean inspired fare is offered throughout the day, 11:00am – 11:00pm weekdays and 5:00pm – 11:00pm on Saturdays. Great new place to savor springtime wining and dining!

The patio at Dallas Chop House is the place to be on these great spring evenings!  If you haven’t been yet, you are in for a treat.  The downtown restaurant has been open about 4 months and Chef Kenny Mills and GM Steve Ochipinti have gotten the food and service fine-tuned.  We’re talking great steaks and seafood and a very appealing lunch menu featuring those and some tasty soups, salads, sandwiches.  And, popovers to live for! (think Neiman-Marcus Zodiac Room). Now that the weather is outdoor perfect, it’s a great time to take advantage of the beautiful space they have created just off the snazzy bar at Dallas Chop House.  It’s like an oasis at the bustling downtown corner of St. Paul and Main Street.  Enjoy lunch, dinner, or drinks and appetizers with friends under the pergola.  I have a feeling they will keep the place cool in the summertime!  Dallas Chop House is the latest venture from Dallas Restaurant Group, which also owns Dallas Fish Market and Go Fish Ocean ClubJohn Tesar, formerly with the Mansion on Turtle Creek, has joined them as culinary coordinator.  Look for new concepts to be rolled out by the group in the coming months.
