The legendary chef and co-founder of the Southwestern Cuisine movement shows no signs of slowing down.  Stephan Pyles is still the ultimate culinary impresario as he prepares to open his new Flora Street Cafe in Hall Arts in the beautiful Dallas Arts District.  Join our conversation as Stephan describes the intimate decor of his new restaurant, waxes nostalgic (for just a minute) about the heady rock star days of the 80’s when he and the “Gang of Five” blazed a new culinary trail that eventually stretched around the world; and he even shares a little dirt from the Star Canyon parade of see and been seen.   And, as if opening a grand, new restaurant weren’t enough to keep Stephan busy, he also talks about about another new project he has up his sleeve.

10 years of wining and dining fun seems like the blink of an eye!  Thanks for making the party so much fun through the years.  We really appreciate your support.

We are pleased that our delicious tastings are back in downtown Dallas on March 21 and 22.

Friday’s Arts District Wine Stroll returns to the beautiful settings of the Nasher Sculpture Center and the Meyerson Symphony Center.  And, what a treat to add the Plaza of the Cathedral at the Arts District to our tasting tour.  The Wine Stroll has sold out the last two years.  So, please get your tickets fast and join us.

Saturday is a food and wine lover’s paradise. Thanks to Bob’s Steak and Chop House in the Omni Hotel Dallas for hosting our wine  and mixology seminars starting at 11 a.m.

Just across the Skybridge from the Omni, Savor Dallas celebrates wine, food, spirits, craft beer, and the arts with two magnificent tastings at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.  

At 5 p.m., “The Reserve Tasting”, featuring über premium wines and Champagnes takes place in Ballroom D (on the 3rd level of the convention Center).

AT 6:30, optional Fast Track Early Entry to the International Grand Tasting is just a few steps away in some very cool “pre function space”, in exhibit jargon, otherwise known as LOBBY E & F.  The area is spacious and inviting, with floor to ceiling views of Big D.  (Regular admission time to the Grand Tasting is 7 p.m.)

Just wait til you see some of the surprises we have in store for you to make our big 10th anniversary party more fun for you.

Dozens of great chefs will be there.  And of course, we’ll have hundreds of premium wines, spirits and beers for you to try (remember it’s a tasting! Please drink responsibly.)

Scattershooting while wondering what happened to my dining notes

Save the Date September 16th.  Or, we could say “SAVOR” the date for our next “Dinner Club with Jim White” special event coming up Thursday September 16th.  As they say in radio, “stay tuned for more details” coming soon!

KRLD Restaurant Week is continuing through September 5th for many of the great participating restaurants.  See the participating restaurants at krld.com.  Help us hit the mark of 100,000 meals served this year to raise $700,000 to benefit the North Texas Food Bank and the Lena Pope Home.

People have asked us the date of Savor Dallas 2011.  Glad to report it will be March 18th and 19th.  Once again, we’ll be celebrating wine, food, spirits and the arts.  We will be returning to the beautiful Dallas Arts District, and the spectacular “International Grand Tasting” will once again be staged in the Sheraton Dallas Hotel.  There are some big surprises planned for our 7th Annual event.  Tickets go on sale October 1st.  See highlights and video from Texas’ largest premium wine and food festival at www.SavorDallas.com.

Best meal deal in town right now is probably the resurrected “Green Room” in Deep Ellum.  How could you beat “Feed Me” from Executive Chef Joel Harloff and BYOB?  Their liquor license is not in place yet, so for the time being, you can bring in wines you like and enjoy the cool scene, the cuisine, and a real value on your wine pairing.  Is this a great country or what?

Taste of the NFL

North Texas Dinner Series

The Taste of the NFL has an appetizing game plan for North Texas and it kicks off long before the Super Bowl ever pulls into town. With the big game coming to Dallas, North Texas chefs have teamed up to create the Taste of the NFL Dinner Series. This series of dinners will coincide with the beginning of the 2010 NFL season and run through mid-November. Proceeds from these dinners benefit the North Texas Food Bank and the Tarrant Area Food Bank.  Read on for the complete schedule.
