Savory Tunes

Nadia Washington

In keeping with its theme of promoting the arts, the 7th Annual Savor Dallas wine and food festival this weekend, features an abundance of music at all major events both Friday and Saturday.

The International Grand Tasting on Saturday March 19th at the Sheraton Dallas features two great musical acts.  Vocalist Nadia

Marc Toussaint

Washington, a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, will be debuting her new CD “Journey”.  The Bill Cosby Presidential Scholarship sent her to Boston and the Berklee College of Music.  And, the crowd pleasing Marc Toussaint Combo will also be performing at the Grand Tasting.  Marc’s latest CD, “ONE FOR MY BABY”, and previous three recordings, were each engineered by multi-Grammy award winner Phil York, and are collections of some of the greatest swing, jazz and dance favorites.

On Friday March 18th, Fans of the popular Arts District Wine Stroll can enjoy guitar stylings from Peter Gardini, reminiscent of jazz legend Wes Montgomery at the Dallas Museum of Art , and jazz duo DJ Sullivan and Norwood Bach at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center while sipping and strolling from 5 to 7 p.m.  Gardini, who is a one man virtuoso, also brings his diverse repertoire to the Savor Dallas “Reserve Tasting” on Saturday March 19.

The Ultimate Friday Night pARTy at Gables Park 17 features a quintet from Denton, First Take Electric Jazz, founded by Tony Palos and trumpeter Tina Palos.  Their funky electric sound combines the styles of Weather Report, Miles Davis and others.

Savor Dallas is a celebration of wine, food, spirits and the arts.  We wanted to bring more music to the mix.  We think it will be a very harmonious weekend.

Bite Size Bytes

They may have to go to three shifts at Nosh to keep up with the demand.  They’re so busy,  about every conceivable service option short of staying open all night has already been added.  Chef Jon Stevens tells me they are continuing to hire folks just to cover lunch and dinner shifts at his collaboration with Chef Avner Samuel on Oak Lawn.  Brunch is proving to be extremely popular.  And, with entrées like these is there any wonder?

Torn from the pages of a ubiquitous eBlast:

  • Duck Confit & Root Vegetable Hash poached egg & béarnaise
  • Baked Farm Eggs gruyere, potato, spanish chorizo & tomato
  • Braised Beef Short Ribs Benedict red chard & black truffle hollandaise
  • Caramelized Pear & Mascarpone French Toast “Sandwich” vanilla bean ice cream & pecans

Yummy.  Nosh is located at 4216 Oak Lawn Avenue, Dallas, TX 75219-2312.  Phone: 214-528-9400

Villa La Pausa in the South of France

If you love art, wine, food, and the South of France (and what’s not to love?), Lavendou hosts an evening on February 10th, combining all four. Dr. Olivier Meslay, Senior Curator for European and American Art at the Dallas Museum of Art is the special guest for the Essilor Vision Foundation benefit dinner and art lecture.  The evening is built around the theme of how fashion legend Coco Chanel and the Reves entertained their guests at Villa La Pausa on the French Riviera. Not a bad way to party.  RSVP and Tickets, call 972-248-1911 or email provencial@aol.com.  Read on for all the details.
