Meet Chef Graham Dodds from one of the hottest restaurants in town, Central 214.  It was very cool to hear about the special menu he has planned for his special addition to DFW Restaurant Week, “The Cadillac Lunch Experience”.  It gives you a chance to dine out during daylight and dark to help the work of the North Texas Food Bank and the Lena Pope Home.  I had fun with Graham.  I think you’ll enjoy watching the Scotsman at work.

One of the cool things about DFW Restaurant Week is getting to dine with rising star chefs while you’re helping a good cause.  I’m so happy to take the “Eye on DFW Restaurant Week” video series to Salum to introduce you to Abraham Salum, chef/owner.  Abraham also operates Komali.  If you haven’t been, both restaurants are among the over 125 that are supporting Restaurant Week and the great work of the North Texas Food Bank and the Lena Pope Home.  Enjoy.

Here Comes KRLD Restaurant Week (Yay!)

The simply amazing KRLD Restaurant Week is in full swing August 15th through 21st.  And, some restaurants will continue through August 28th.  Even a few will continue through Labor Day weekend.  Oh, and if that’s not enough, many will have a special preview August 12th through 14th.  It is the very best way to spend a hot August night.  A great meal, at a great price for a great cause–The North Texas Food Bank and the Lena Pope Home.  Over 125 restaurants!  This event raised over $600,000 for the charities last year, and millions through the years since it started in 1997.  Bring your friends.  Bring you family.  Heck invite the in-laws to town!  They don’t have to know you got a great three-course dinner for them for only $35.  But be sure and let them know you’re all helping charity with your dinner, because $7 from each meal purchased goes to the charities.  You MUST have a reservation to get this special deal.  The phone lines are levitating as we speak at the hottest places in town, so hurry and call now!  There is so much diversity, both in food and in location, that I wouldn’t sweat it if you can’t get a reservation at exactly the place you want.  The big brand name places fill up fast.  So, consider branching out and trying new places, or going to an area you haven’t visited before.  There are great choices on the list.  Like Carnegie Hall, not a bad seat in the house.  See all the restaurants at GuideLive.com or KRLD.com.  Please remember, if you make a reservation and can’t keep it, CALL the restaurant and let them know so you don’t keep someone else from dining out for the cause.  And, by all means take good care of your server!  At these prices, you should tip 20% on what the meal SHOULD have cost, AND order a more expensive wine.  Most all of the restaurants are doing wine and food pairings for an additional charge.  That’s the best way to experience the meal and the great flavor profiles the way the chef envisioned it.  So have a great time, and let me know what you really love this year during KRLD Restaurant Week.  Bon appétit!

KRLD Restaurant Week Here We Come!

Thirteen years in the making, but not an overnight success.  KRLD Restaurant Week had fairly modest beginnings.  Would you believe that in 1997 we actually had to cajole many of the chefs to get their restaurant involved?  And, some folks were reluctant to leave their living rooms and make reservations on a sticky August night, when a cold beer and some cold cuts sounded better than three courses of fine dining and wines to match.  But, the momentum built quickly.  In year two, maybe one or two irascible chefs failed to see the vision of the great cultural and civic dining event in the making, and people were already thinking about ways to get groups of friends together to “make their reservations for KRLD Restaurant Week” (as we say in the commercials touting the event).  The enthusiasm for KRLD Restaurant Week has grown steadily through the years.  Having worked so hard on courting the chefs to get involved (early days), and continuing to try and help spread the word on the event, I am thrilled and gratified to see Restaurant Week become bigger and better each year.  The goal for fundraising is $700,000 this year.   Money that will go to support the great work of the North Texas Food Bank and the Lena Pope Home.  You can “dine out to help out” beginning this weekend.  The special “Preview” of KRLD Restaurant Week is underway tonight through Sunday at select participating restaurants.  It’s your chance to get a cool summer cocktail, in addition to the special three course meal (and the Central Market Fourth Course, too), and also help the great charities.  Get all the details at krld.com on the restaurants involved.  If you are going this weekend, please do me a favor and tell all your friends to be sure and make reservations over the next two, and in some cases three weeks, of “Restaurant Week”.  Remember:  if you make a reservation and can’t keep it, please notify the restaurant.  And, take care of those servers!  Tip to the max.  Have a great time, and thanks for supporting such a great cause.  Bon appétit!
