Monica has spent the better part of three decades championing urban Dallas neighborhoods and helping to turn them into restaurant meccas: Uptown, Oak Lawn, Deep Ellum. Now, she and her cohorts, Chef Anastacia Quiñones and bartender Leann Berry, collectively known as the “Trifecta” are doing the same for the Cedars Neighborhood with the re-opening of The Cedars Social. On today’s episode hear Monica’s reflections on some of the amazing chefs and restaurateurs she has worked with through the years, and get a great sense of how the Dallas-Fort Worth restaurant scene has evolved. “Wining and Dining with Jim White” is the podcast devoted to introducing you to the people who make the eats and drinks you love. Iconic restaurateur Monica Greene joins us on this week’s episode of “Wining and Dining with Jim White” on VOKALnow.com. She was loving her days of semi-retirement in Aspen, when a “funny thing happened on the way up the mountain”. She had a drink with some old friends and bought the establishment in which they were drinking (don’t try this at home). Turns out to be a very cool move, because that establishment is The Cedars Social, and Monica and her “trifecta” partners, Chef Anastacia Quiñones, and mixologist Leann Berry, have just re-opened the fleetingly popular restaurant in Dallas’ Cedars Neighborhood. They’re serving up “Modern Mexican Cuisine” (don’t bother asking for nachos), and pairing it with a great Tequila/Mezcal and fine wine program. You’ll hear great stories from Monica about her many restaurant successes–Monica’s Aca y Alla and Ciudad to name but a few–a couple of disappointments along the way, and about her love for Dallas-Fort Worth’s urban neighborhoods (clue: she’s usually had a restaurant in one of them). Welcome to the podcast devoted to introducing you to the people who create the eats and drinks you love. Catch all of our episodes on VOKAL Media and on iTunes. And, remember…if anybody asks you what you’re making for dinner, tell ’em reservations!
Congratulations to long-time friend, and longer time restaurateur Monica Greene on the opening of her new place in Bishop Arts: Best Enchiladas Ever (“BEE”). People on Yelp are describing it as a “grownup Chipotle” with build your own enchiladas instead of burritos. Prices are cheap: $4.99 for one enchilada; $7.99 for two. You choose the tortilla (corn, flour, blue corn) the filling (beef, cheese, pork) the sauce (red, green, etc.) to totally customize your dish. The physical address is 202 W. Davis St., near West 7th. The phone is 214-941-1233. And you can visit their facebook page here. It is so cool that Monica is back in town and taking care of biz. She describes her new operation as an “enchiladeria–a new fast-casual concept where enchiladas are made your way with fresh, natural, and organic products”. BEE is open daily from 11 a.m. til 10 p.m. We will make a concerted effort to bring Monica and BEE to you at Savor Dallas March 19th.
