Smoke and Rioja Magic

See highlights of a great evening of wining and dining at Smoke for our “Dinner Club with Jim White” event featuring wines from Rioja.  Chef Tim Byres brings the great menu to pair with the wines.  Rioja expert Adrian Murcia gave our guests a wonderful overview of the wines and the region. Thanks to Centennial Fine Wine and Spirits for making such a fun evening possible.

Wine of the Week: Twin Flags East Coast New Zealand Pinot Grigio 2008 September 27, 2010

Pinot Grigio (pronounced as Pee-no Gree-sheo) and Pinot Gris are the exact same grape varietal. When grown in Italy, it is generally referred to as Pinot Grigio; however in France and in the United States it is usually referred to as Pinot Gris. Even though the skin of this grape can have a reddish color once ripe, it is generally used for white wine production. The usual flavor profile of this varietal has notes of apples, lemon and tangerine with a light to medium body and notes of orange blossoms. In Germany this grape varietal is also referred to as Rulander.

photos.com picts 064.jpg New Zealand is hardly the first place we think of when we hear Pinot Grigio, but this gem will no doubt turn heads with its body, complexity and balance. Initially, the Twin Flags Pinot Grigio 2007 shows a nutty, honeyed flower aroma but soon gives way to flavors of lemon bread, apricot, nectarine and spice notes. A lack of oak presence and moderate acidity keeps it lively and versatile. If thin, insipid grocery store Pinot Grigio keeps leaving you wanting, consider this tasty alternative.

Party with Us on a HOT August Night

Join us for big fun and great food and wine, tonight at “The Place” at Perry’s in Uptown.  The evening starts with a cool KRLD Happy Hour at 5.  Mike Rogers, Mitch Carr and a host of your KRLD Morning Show favorites are expected to be on hand.  You can register for red hot Rangers tickets, enjoy some cool libations and a whole lot more.  Then, at 7, our latest special event from the “Dinner Club with Jim White” gets underway.  The wine and food pairing for this dinner is exceptional.  And, the price is incomparable for wine and food of this quality.  I’m not just saying that either.  I have been to approximately 375 wine dinners in recent years, and the prices on these dinners for “The Dinner Club” is the best value I have ever seen.  Thanks to our good friends at Centennial Fine Wine and Spirits for making the evening possible.  Thanks to the folks at “The Place” at Perry’s for putting together such an incredible menu.  Hurry, there are just a few reservations left for the dinner tonight (here’s the number to call:  214-871-9991), but plenty of room for you to join us for the KRLD Happy Hour.  We hope to see you tonight.  Click here to see the full menu and wine pairing. Cheers!

Take a look at how handsome these KRLD Morning Show people are!

Thanks to everyone who joined us last night at the cool, new Meddlesome Moth in the Dallas Design District for a great evening of wining and dining.  The evening was even more fun because KRLD got the evening started with a “Fan Appreciation” Happy Hour at The Moth.  Thanks to morning hosts Mike Rogers and Mitch Carr, along with VP of Programming Kurt Johnson for setting it up.  Thanks to our friends at Centennial Fine Wine and Spirits and Darrell Gibson for making the evening possible, and to the great team at The Meddlesome Moth, Shannon Wynne, Keith Schlabs, and Chef Chad Kelley for providing great hospitality.  Jeff and all the servers were absolutely marvelous.  If you haven’t been to The Moth, get in there soon!  Please save the dave for our next Dinner Club event on August 12th.  Details coming very soon.

Here are some photo highlights from last night’s food, wine, beer, rum and fun event.  Cheers.
